Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll
Film producer Damian Jones sought the advice of The Fellowship about polio for the background of the film. Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll features the life story of Ian Dury following his personal battle with polio, and effects of fame on his relationships. Andy Serkis as Ian Dury, shows the world what it was like to be diagonosed with polio, the barbaric medical treatments that followed and the life-changing after-effects of this cruel virus. There are no holds barred in this film. It shows Ian as a child, as an adult being the victim of terrible prejudice and abuse. The film reveals how relationships with families and lovers can be affected long after the virus has gone, catastrophically in some cases. It also brings home the message that children with polio grow up and that's the reason The British Polio Fellowship is here today.
