Support and Information
The team are on hand five days a week to inform and support on all aspects of living with polio or Post Polio Syndrome. We can be contacted by freephone, email or letter and you can rely on us to provide the most up to date and timely information available.
You can talk things through with us, we can send you information on a range of issues or we may be able to put you in touch with a welfare volunteer at your local Branch. We may also be able to provide details of other local or national advice agencies as appropriate.
Last year our confidential national information service handled over 3,000 enquiries.
We can give you information on the following topics:
- Issues relating to living with Polio or Post Polio Syndrome
- Disability rights and benefits
- Interested health professionals
- Polio vaccination
- Useful publications
- Other organisations who may be able to help you in a variety of situations
Our aim is to inform and empower, but we may also be able to support people with polio with particular benefits/rights or funding issues.
We can give you assistance with the following:
- Form filling (e.g. Disability Living Allowance and Attendance Allowance).
We have a Disability Benefits Advisor to assist with maximising claims for disability benefit entitlements
- Small grants for equipment and heating
- Finding other potential funders
- Accessing social services and other services
- Dealing with service providers
Sometimes it just helps to have someone who will listen.
We do not give legal, medical or specialist benefits/rights advice but we may know of other sources of help.
We have access to Language Line, a translation service for people whose first language is not English. We have also been trained to use RNID Typetalk.
