Appeals

Our appeals fund specific projects and some of the core work of the Fellowship and enable our members and supporters to make a contribution to a particular cause that is dear to their hearts.

The Bulletin Appeal - 2011

Most members of The British Polio Fellowship consider The Bulletin to be one of their important lifelines to the outside world and find the tips, information, advice and other readers’ experiences to be invaluable. However, as the majority of our members do not have access to the internet or email, they depend on paper copies which are, unfortunately, expensive to produce. Like other charities, we rely totally on donations in the form of Legacies and Trusts for most of our income, both of which vary widely from year to year. 2010 was a very difficult year for us.

We are still committed to ensuring that all members continue to receive their Bulletin but as each issue costs £2.50 to write, print and deliver we reluctantly have to ask our members if they would make a contribution towards the cost of production. This can be by way of a one off donation or perhaps you would like to set up a monthly or annual Direct Debit. Donating by Direct Debit is of huge benefit to our charity as it means we know exactly how much and when we will receive the income and it offers you the added security of the Direct Debit Guarantee. If you are already donating by Direct Debit and wish to vary your donation, you can also use this form. If you wish to make a donation in this way, please complete the attached form and return it to Central Office.

However, if you wish to make a single donation, please complete the form on the reverse side of the Direct Debit form and return it to Central Office with your cheque. Donations can also be made by credit card by calling Linda on 020 8836 3689. If you are unable to make a donation, we will still send you a copy of The Bulletin every two months.

I do hope you continue to enjoy reading The Bulletin but remember, it’s your magazine so do let us know if there is anything that you like or don’t like about it and continue to send in your stories and letters so that they may be included in future editions.

Yours sincerely

Sir Patrick Moore CBE Winter Warmth Appeal 2010

Sir Patrick Moore

With the winter months approaching fast you, as a member living with the effects of polio, know only too well that this means having to keep the heating turned up much higher than the average household as a result of feeling the cold more than most. Higher heating bills and continuously rising fuel prices can cause much stress to some Fellowship members especially to those who are on low incomes and are under 60 years of age and do not qualify for the government’s winter fuel allowance.

The Fellowship strives to support all people with polio living in the UK and each year raises funds for those people who are struggling to keep their homes warm and may experience more hardship than others.

To enable us to give grants to our members we need to approach Trusts each year, sell space to Advertisers in The Bulletin and generate income through both internet sales and working successfully with generous Partner organisations. In total, we aim to raise £20,000 each year to be able to provide this service for our members.

The Fellowship does not receive any government funding for its basic work and in order to continue to improve and extend its services it still needs your help and is reliant on the generosity of its members and supporters. If you are able to help, please complete either the “One Off” donation form or, to make a regular donation, complete the “Direct Debit” form and return to: The British Polio Fellowship, FREEPOST RLSJ-BAGS-BUCT, Eagle Office Centre, The Runway, South Ruislip, Middlesex HA4 6BR. You can also make a credit/debit card donation over the telephone by calling FREEPHONE 0800 0180586.

Thank you for your generosity.

Yours sincerely

The British Polio Week 3-11 July 2010

A Big Thank you to our members, friends and families for making Polio week a great success!!! We are still collecting monies in and once we have a total amount raised we will let you know.
Remember to let us know what you did to raise money for the The Fellowship during Polio week and send those photographs in, so we can share your fundraising stories. Ann Attwater had a Barbecue and managed to raise a staggering £750. Please see photographs of some of our runners from London 10K who run for The Fellowship and successfully raised £650.
Well Done Everyone!

 Bulletin appeal

We need to raise about £75,000 a year to cover the costs of producing and posting The Bulletin. The magazine is an essential source of information for our members and a regular donation of £2.50 per month would cover one person’s subscription.

2010 Research and Orthotics Appeal

This appeal will help raise funds to invest in more medical research and so help with covering the costs of our Expert and Orthotics Panels, both of which had major input in the PPS Guide and Orthotics leaflet published in 2009. This appeal will run throughout 2010. Click "Donate here".

Winter Appeal 2010

The Fellowship strives to support all people with polio in the UK in a variety of ways including grants to help with high winter fuel costs.
In order to continue to improve and extend our services we need your help.
The British Polio Fellowship does not receive any government funding for our basic core work. We are entirely reliant on the generosity of our members and supporters.
If you would like to make a donation over the phone or set up a Direct Debit, please call 0208 836 3679, or send your cheque payable to the ‘British Polio Fellowship’ and marked ‘Winter Appeal’ to Unit A, Eagle Office Centre, The Runway, South Ruislip, HA4 6SE.

Spring Appeal

With the arrival of spring and warmer weather, we all feel like getting out and about more. This appeal is to enable us to provide grants to people with mobility difficulties so they can buy equipment and mobility aids to improve their independence and quality of life. A regular donation of £50 per month would provide a scooter for a person impaired by polio.

Indoor Games Appeal

We need to raise £25,000 each year to ensure the continuation of this much-loved and unique social event which enables people with polio from all over the country to compete in a wide range of indoor games. A regular donation of £25 per month would cover the transport costs for one team of competitors
