Appeals
Bulletin Appeal
Every member receives 6 copies of the Bulletin each year. It is a much-valued source of information and platform for exchange of ideas. We need to raise £60,000 in 2008 to cover the costs of this valuable service. Please phone Marianne Gkikas on 020 8836 3679 to make a credit/debit card donation or for a Bulletin Appeal donation form.
Heating Appeal 2007/8
People with polio are likely to have experienced damage to nerves that help control the temperature of the body. Their muscles do not contract well and they can experience painful and disabling symptoms of cold intolerance. Paralysis of limbs means poor mobility and inability to keep warm. This needs to be addressed otherwise serious conditions like hypothermia, influenza and pneumonia could develop. By creating a warmer environment, our members can preserve precious energy, improve mobility and have a better quality of life. However, this means higher then average heating bills.
This year we need to increase the average heating grant given in order to make a real difference to the lives of over 500 people with polio. We are looking to raise £40,000 in total, £20,000 from our own funds and the balance of £20,000 from outside sources. If you can help, you can download an application form here. It is now possible to set up a Direct Debit which means we know each year how much will be coming in to provide heating grants and can plan accordingly. Other payment options are available. If you receive the government Winter Fuel Payment but do not really need it, would you consider donating it to someone who does? Your donation will help our charity add a little warmth to the lives of so many people with polio.
If you gave a donation to our Heating Appeal last year, thank you so very much. Please help again if you possibly can.
