The British Polio Fellowship is the largest UK charity dedicated to supporting the tens of thousands of people who survived the Polio epidemics of the first half of the 20th Century.
Most people have been able to live fulfilling, independent lives, often following extensive rehabilitation. However, approximately 60% of people who had Polio are now experiencing new Polio-related symptoms such as muscle weakness, swallowing problems, fatigue and pain, for which they need to seek help.
There are estimated to be 120,000 people living in the UK alone who have had Polio and are now suffering from the neurological condition Post Polio Syndrome (PPS).
The British Polio Fellowship provides information and literature on all aspects of managing the condition. By becoming a member you will also benefit from a dedicated Disability & Benefits Advisor and support through Welfare, Heating and Holiday grants. The bi-monthly membership magazine the bulletin is also a valuable source of information and is a lifeline to many members.
If you had Polio or PPS we would like to hear from you. For more information contact our Support Services Team
We also support our members through a comprehensive Branch and Group network across the UK, which provides members with a source of local contact and support. Please visit our Regions Page to find out where these are based.
