Supporting the British Polio Fellowship - Companies

Charitable Donation

Making a donation to the Fellowship through a charitable trust, or gift aid is a tax effective way for your company to help people who have had polio. Since April 2000 companies no longer have to pay Income Tax on charity gifts of any, size, or complete a Gift Aid Form. You simply have to pay the full donation to the charity of your choice and then claim Corporation Tax relief on the full amount when calculating your taxable profits.

Click here for some examples of how your donation could help people with polio. For further information please contact the Membership and Development Department (or call free on 0800 0180 586).

The Charities Aid Foundation website offers companies a wealth of information about the benefits of giving to charities, and offers advice on everything from tax efficient giving to employee fundraising and matched giving schemes. Look at the Companies Guide section of their website at http://www.cafonline.org/company

Sponsorship

Thank you for finding out how you can help people who have had polio through sponsorship. By sponsoring some of the Fellowship's materials like the Annual Report, the bi-monthly magazine, or information leaflets, your company will benefit from branding, publicity and marketing opportunities. To discuss these options, please contact Membership and Development Department (or call free on 0800 0180 586).

Charity of the Year

Show your company's commitment to helping people who have had polio by nominating the Fellowship as your charity of the year. The Fellowship's Membership and Development Department (or call free on 0800 0180 586) can put you and your employees in touch with local Fellowship Branches and Groups all around the country, and can provide help with fundraising ideas, PR and materials.

Use the opportunity to raise your company profile and advertise your commitment to helping people in your local community.

Give As You Earn (GAYE) Schemes

If you don't already have a GAYE scheme in operation, offer your employees the opportunity to make monthly or weekly payments by introducing a payroll giving scheme. You can find out more from the CAF website.

If you do have a scheme running, perhaps you would consider sending an internal memo or e-mail asking staff to consider supporting the work of the Fellowship through a regular payroll or gift.

Promote Fellowship on your website or Intranet

Most companies now have their own website or Intranet (internal internet). Perhaps you could consider helping to raise our profile by carrying the Fellowship logo and site-link on your own website or intranet for a specified time, promoting the work of the Fellowship. This would cost you nothing and would advertise your commitment to helping people with polio to both your employees and your clients.

Contact the Membership and Development Department (or call free on 0800 0180 586) for further information

Cause Related Marketing

By giving the Fellowship a royalty from the sale of a particular product or service, you can help us and also promote your own commitment to helping people with polio. If you would like to discuss a possible joint-promotion, please contact the Membership and Development Department (or call free on 0800 0180 586).

Gifts in Kind

Your company could benefit from publicity by donating goods and services in kind to the Fellowship. Perhaps you can provide us with items or services to help reduce our costs, or you may have items we can use as raffle prizes to raise money. If you think you may have some suitable gifts in kind, please contact the Membership and Development Department (or call free on 0800 0180 586).

Matched Funding & Employee Fundraising

Have you considered matching what your employees raise £1 for £1? This is a great way to motivate your staff, and at the same time provides you with numerous PR opportunities every time an employee undertakes a fundraising activity. If you don't already have a scheme, why not set one up permanently, or just for one year for example, whilst you adopt your favourite charity.

Why not set up a company challenge to encourage your employees to raise money for the Fellowship. You can set a fundraising target and challenge staff, branches, teams and departments to compete to raise £1,000 or more towards the target. This will help to build up team spirit and develop team skills and partnerships. The results can also be publicised to help you gain valuable PR. We can provide your staff with ideas, materials, details of local Branches and advice.

Charitable Donation - Trusts

The British Polio Fellowship has been supported by a number of trusts, both large and small, over the years. Some give a one-off donation, and others fund specific projects. Many trusts give a donation year after year.

If you are the trustee of a Charitable Trust and would like to find out more about the British Polio Fellowship's work to support people who have had polio, please contact the Membership and Development Department (or call free on 0800 0180 586). We can provide you with information about specific aspects of our work, plus annual reports and accounts, arrange a visit, or provide you with details of trusts who have supported us in the past.
