The British Polio Fellowship is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Linda Evers, a long-serving Trustee and dedicated member of the Leeds Branch.

Linda passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, on the evening of Thursday 17 July, surrounded by her loving family. She was married, with three children and nine grandchildren.

Linda’s life was defined by resilience, service, and compassion. A survivor of polio since the age of 15 months, she lived with the effects of the virus after contracting it in 1947. Despite challenges, Linda pursued a full professional career and worked as a VAT inspector and trainer for HMRC until her retirement. She also gave back to her community through 22 years of service as a school governor.

Her involvement with the British Polio Fellowship began in 1949, when she joined the charity as a young member. Over the decades, Linda played an active role within the Leeds Branch, most recently serving as Treasurer, and previously as Treasurer for the Yorkshire Region. Her financial acumen and lived experience made her an invaluable member of the national Board of Trustees.

“Linda’s dedication to the Fellowship was unwavering,” said Kripen Dhrona Chief Executive Officer for the British Polio Fellowship.

“Her empathy and experience made a lasting impact on our work and on the lives of those around her.”

Linda will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her through the Fellowship and beyond.

Linda’s funeral will take place on Tuesday 26 August at 10:15 AM at Bramley Methodist Church, Upper Town St, Bramley, Leeds LS13 2ER.

If you are able-bodied, please use the large car park located behind Bramley Shopping Centre. Parking is free for up to two hours, and the church is just a short walk away.
