The singer, known for his hit Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me), died in March last year and left behind a six-figure sum and now the fate of his fortune has been revealed

Cockney Rebel star Steve Harley died in March last year and left behind a six-figure sum. The singer, known for his hit Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me), had still been touring at the age of 73, but was forced to put his concerts on hold at the beginning of last year to have cancer treatment.

Steve's will showed he left a total of £469,213 and it stated that his estate should be left in trust for his wife Dorothy as well as his children Greta and Kerr.

His will also specified that £25,000 should be donated to the British Polio Fellowship. He was hit with polio as a child in 1953 so the cause was close to his heart.

Steve previously said of his illness: "I was two and I copped a packet in the right leg. But that’s all. All I do is limp … and it does not affect my life.” He spent a lot of time in the hospital as a child, undergoing operations in 1963 and 1966.

His will, drawn up in 2023, requested his body be cremated and ashes spread around Ron's Tree. He also made a £25,000 donation to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Back in February of 2024, he told fans of his cancer treatment. Writing to fans, his official social media page said: "Due to on-going treatment for cancer, Steve cannot commit to any concerts in 2024. Steve is hoping next year will be altogether different. He appreciates all you kind words and good wishes. Team SH."

The singer’s daughter Greta said a month later in a statement that the musician passed away. She wrote: "We are devastated to announce that our wonderful husband and father has passed away peacefully at home, with his family by his side. The birdsong from his woodland that he loved so much was singing for him. His home has been filled with the sounds and laughter of his four grandchildren.

"Stephen. Steve. Dad. Grandar. Steve Harley. Whoever you know him as, his heart exuded only core elements. Passion, kindness, generosity. And much more, in abundance. We know he will be desperately missed by people all over the world, and we ask that you respectfully allow us privacy to grieve."

Steve had a highly successful music career with his band Cockney Rebel, having a huge hit across Europe with Sebastian from their debut album with EMI in 1973, hitting the top spot in the Netherlands and Belgium. It was in 1975 that Steve made his name as Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me) went to number one in the charts.
