On Monday 3 November, the British Polio Fellowship (BPF) joined the Northern Ireland Neurological Conditions Alliance (niNCA) at the Stormont Parliament Buildings to support the launch of its “Fight for Neuro” campaign.
As an active member of niNCA, the BPF stood alongside other neurological charities to raise awareness of the daily challenges faced by people living with neurological conditions. The campaign calls attention to the significant delays in accessing essential appointments, treatment, and support — a consequence of chronic underfunding and overstretched neurology services in Northern Ireland.
During the event, policy-makers heard directly from individuals affected by neurological conditions, who shared personal stories illustrating how the current system is failing to meet their needs. Their message was clear: urgent investment, improved staffing, and equitable access to care are needed to ensure no one is left behind.

Looking ahead, the British Polio Fellowship will return to Stormont on 2 March 2026 to host a polio-focused event, aimed at helping Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) better understand the ongoing issues faced by polio survivors — particularly those who contracted the virus during the epidemics of the 1940s, 1950s, and early 1960s and are now living with its late effects.
Any polio survivors living in Northern Ireland who are interested in attending or learning more about this upcoming event are encouraged to contact the BPF at info@britishpolio.org.uk
