The British Polio Fellowship Barbara Wood Citizens Awards 2023 took place on Saturday 16 September at the Mercure York Fairfield Manor Hotel in Skelton, York.
Having collated the nominations for the award categories (polio and non-polio) the winners were announced during this years’ British Polio Fellowship’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Information Day.
At the event, Kripen spoken about both winners and said: “The competition has been fierce – we have received a high number of entries which has made the decision more difficult, but in a really positive way.”
Kripen went on to explain that all the finalists had “gone the extra mile for the British Polio Fellowship (BPF) and their hard work and effort were much appreciated.” He added that candidates were judged by a panel to ensure a robust award process.
Joan Robson picked up the non-polio member Barbara Wood Citizen award for her tireless fundraising work for the Fellowship over the years, which has benefited both the Yorkshire region and Wakefield branch.
Caroline Gordon-Wilson won the highly coveted polio member Barbara Wood Citizen award
having provided considerable expertise in supporting her local branch in Lincoln and in the past, having assisted Central Office.
The awards closed with Kripen congratulating the winners and all nominees for their hard work, commitment and generosity in supporting the polio community.
BPF Chair, Gordon Richardson commented: “This year’s AGM has been a great way to celebrate the success of the category winners and all those nominated for the awards. Joan and Caroline have reminded us about the enormous contribution volunteers make and the positive impact they have on the lives of polio survivors. Congratulations to them both and we look forward to next year’s awards when we celebrate the Fellowship’s 85th anniversary”.
